When talking about antiviral drugs, we often mean drugs that are used in the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI). ARVIs are a group of viral infections that lead to the development of inflammation of the upper and lower respiratory tract. ARVI includes: influenza, adenovirus, rhinovirus, respiratory syncytial, parainfluenza, reovirus and coronavirus infections. These viruses are combined with each other for a reason. They have a number of common features:
- The source of infection is a sick person. The patient is most contagious during fever and catarrhal syndrome. To understand, catarrhal syndrome is a combination of symptoms such as: sore throat, redness of the throat, congestion and snot from the nose, and much more. We will dwell on this issue in more detail when considering the symptoms of ARVI in children.
- They are characterized by the main transmission mechanism – airborne droplets.
- They have seasonality. The greatest number of acute respiratory viral infections occurs in the winter months.
In this article we will consider issues related to the formation of immunity in children with ARVI, cold symptoms, as well as the treatment of this disease in a child. Let's take an in-depth look at the most popular, prescribed antiviral drugs for children.
pharmachologic effect
Ascorutin - what is it?
This pharmaceutical drug is a combination drug that has the properties of a vitamin and other useful biological components included in the tablets. By inhibiting the activity of the enzyme hyaluronidase , rutin and ascorbic acid reduce the permeability and fragility of capillaries, which significantly strengthens the vascular wall of the microcirculatory and macrocirculatory beds. The combination of active components makes it possible to inhibit the aggression of platelets , the main cellular element of the blood clotting system, due to which the drug suppresses nosological units, which are based on increased thrombus formation.
Vitamin C also has antioxidant properties, that is, it protects cellular structures from the harmful effects of oxidized molecules, free radicals and peroxidation of the bilipid membrane. These therapeutic effects are used in the fight against acute respiratory diseases . In addition, ascorbic acid takes part in many redox metabolic pathways. For example, the participation of this biologically active component in the metabolism of fats, the synthesis of collagen and other connective tissue proteins, the reactions of conversion of folic acid into folinic acid, the synthesis of catecholamines, the metabolism of aromatic acids and the metabolism of steroid hormones, in particular, in the metabolism of thyroxine .
It should not be forgotten that ascorbic acid is a powerful factor in the body's defense, both as part of the immune system and as a nonspecific agent. By enhancing the processes of natural repair and restoration of cellular elements, vitamin C increases resistance to infections and reduces exposure to various types of exogenous allergens.
Rutin exhibits strong anti-inflammatory effects, which are actively used in the conservative treatment of certain diseases. The mechanism of action is to reduce the exudation of the liquid part of the plasma and diapedesis of cellular elements into the pathological focus through the vascular wall. That is, one of the extremely important stages in the development of a typical inflammatory process is eliminated. We should not forget that rutin also has choleretic and mild antihypertensive effects, which helps normalize the functions of the cardiovascular and digestive systems.
Ascorutin tablets - what are they for?
Due to the breadth of the pharmacological action of the drug, it is very difficult to say exactly what these tablets are for. Of course, like any medicine, there is a certain list of indications for conservative therapy with Ascorutin, however, popular advice also recommends using the drug to reduce swelling and pain in chronic venous insufficiency . Rutin in combination with vitamin C eliminates trophic disorders, especially in the lower extremities, as it cleanses and strengthens the vascular bed.
It has been clinically confirmed that Ascorutin can be used in oncology. What is it used for? Medical research has proven that cancer cells are a kind of “trap” for beneficial nutrients, including vitamin complexes. Therefore, in order to avoid the development of hypovitamin pathological conditions, tablets are also prescribed to cancer patients.
Action of the medicine
The drug is most often used for vascular diseases due to the presence of rutoside (rutin) in it. This substance is a glycoside of the bioflavonoid quercetin, included in the vitamin P group. It has been proven that rutoside is a powerful angioprotector. Like vitamin P, it has the following effects:
- strengthening the capillary network;
- increased blood microcirculation;
- reduction of tissue swelling;
- reduction of the phenomena of increased vascular permeability;
- toning the venous wall;
- anti-inflammatory effect.
Rutin also helps absorb vitamin C and works more powerfully together with it. Ascorbic acid, in turn, is a strong antioxidant, normalizes blood clotting, helps tissues regenerate faster, which also applies to damaged blood vessels.
In addition to the effect on blood vessels, both substances have a number of positive effects on the entire body.
Vitamins strengthen general immunity, neutralize the effects of radiation and ultraviolet radiation, and remove toxins.
They have a positive effect on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and restore normal hormone synthesis. When taking Ascorutin, resistance to any adverse conditions increases.
The medicine Mydocalm helps relieve muscle pain, therefore it is widely prescribed by neurologists, orthopedists, and traumatologists. The drug has a number of cheaper analogues. Read more in the article: “cheap analogues of Mydocalm in tablets.”

- malabsorption syndrome or maldigestion syndrome ;
- fructose intolerance;
- first trimester of pregnancy ;
- children under 4 years of age.
Contraindications and side effects
The drug should be taken with great caution if you have diabetes. It contains sucrose, which is why some manufacturers produce a special sugar-free product for diabetics. Before taking, in any case, you need to check with your doctor.
For diabetes, Ascorutin is often recommended for diabetic retinopathy in complex treatment.
You should not drink Ascorutin in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Further, pregnant women are allowed to take it under medical supervision, only if there is no evidence of increased blood clotting! Contraindications for therapy are:
Advertising:
- acute thrombosis;
- acute thrombophlebitis;
- tendency to thrombus formation, movement of blood clots;
- intolerance to components.
For any form of hypercoagulation, therapy is carried out with caution! Special control during treatment is also important for people with urolithiasis (vitamin C can increase salt deposition), imbalance of potassium, calcium, and renal failure. It is not recommended for children under 3 years of age, although pediatricians prescribe tablets for children according to indications.
The drug rarely causes side effects, but sometimes allergic reactions are observed - rash, itchy skin, dyspepsia, nausea. Headaches and migraines are less common. Women sometimes experience facial flushing and a feeling of heat on the skin.
Side effects
Adverse effects of conservative treatment and various side effects are extremely rare, because the main active components of a pharmaceutical drug are part of the natural metabolism of the human body, but the following manifestations may occur:
- From the central nervous system: headache , disturbance of sleep and wakefulness, increased fatigue, increased excitability of the central nervous system.
- From the blood system: thrombocytosis, hyperthrombinemia , increased production of red blood cells and platelets, neutrophilic leukocytosis .
- Cardiovascular system: disruption of natural tissue trophism, cardiac muscle dystrophy , increased blood pressure (hypertensive crises), development of microangiopathies.
- On the metabolic side: inhibition of the normal function of the pancreatic insular apparatus (manifested in the form of hyperglycemia , glucosuria ) and glycogen synthesis, fluid and sodium retention by the body, hypervitaminosis C , impaired metabolic properties of zinc and copper.
- Gastrointestinal tract: irritation of the mucous membrane of the digestive tube, heartburn , nausea, vomiting, diarrhea .
- Allergic reactions (occur extremely rarely): skin rashes, itching , angioedema , anaphylactic shock , urticaria .
Ascorutin tablets, instructions for use (Method and dosage)
The pharmaceutical drug is prescribed for use orally, since the active ingredients are well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The dosage of the drug, as a rule, is selected individually, based on the needs, stage of the pathophysiological process of the nosological unit, age and other physical parameters. Also, the amount of the drug used is influenced by the initial data of clinical tests. However, there are general schemes for prescribing Ascorutin for children, adolescents and adults.
How to take Ascorutin for adults
For preventive purposes, 1-2 tablets are used once a day, and for treatment, 1-2 tablets are prescribed 2-3 times a day. The dosage regimen may vary depending on the nosological unit at the discretion of a qualified specialist who prescribes the drug for conservative therapy.
A repeated course of treatment is carried out upon request and is also regulated by the attending physician.
Instructions for use of Ascorutin for children
For the age category over 4 years, a dosage of half or a whole tablet is used as an active prevention of various pathologies (for which Ascorutin is used in preventive sanitation, see above).
For therapeutic purposes, children under adolescence are prescribed half or a whole tablet 2-3 times a day. The average duration of the course is 3-4 weeks; as a rule, the exact duration is prescribed by the attending physician.
Adolescents are prescribed adult dosages with mandatory preliminary monitoring of all systems and organs, since the irreversible consequences of conservative treatment in this age category are manifested by the most severe symptoms.
Rules of use for pregnant women
The drug should not be used in the first trimester due to the risk of developing a pathological condition of vitamin C oversaturation. It is also strictly forbidden to use Ascorutin in combination with other mineral-vitamin complexes. For women in the critical period, 1 tablet is prescribed 2-3 times a day. It is not recommended to drink the pharmaceutical drug with mineral or alkaline water, otherwise the ability of the active ingredients to be absorbed in the digestive tube will significantly deteriorate.
How to use Ascorutin correctly
Tablets are recommended to be taken after or during meals. This way the vitamins are better absorbed and act faster. The drug should be taken with plain water. In the absence of contraindications - berry or fruit juices. It is not advisable to use alkaline mineral water, as it neutralizes the acids contained in the tablets.
Adults are recommended to take 200–600 mg. Ascorutin per day (2–6 tablets), depending on the type of pathology present. To prevent hypovitaminosis, it is enough to drink 1 piece. twice a day. For treatment - repeat the dose 3-4 times a day. The drug should be swallowed whole, without chewing, so that the acids do not harm tooth enamel.
Ascorutin is allowed for children from 4 years of age: 0.5–1 tablet per day. For babies, it is recommended to grind the product into powder or dilute it in 1 tsp. slightly warm water. After taking it, it is advisable to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water.
Recommended course of continuous intake of the vitamin complex: 2–4 weeks. If necessary, the doctor can prescribe a prolonged dose - up to 2 months, or a cyclic dose - up to six months. To avoid complications, you should not prolong taking Ascorutin or increase the dose yourself.
Overdose
With long-term use of the pharmaceutical drug in large dosages, it is possible to inhibit the function of the insular apparatus of the pancreatic gland and disrupt the normal functioning of the kidneys. Also, the following symptoms of an overdose of Ascorutin may develop:
- epigastric pain;
- nausea and vomiting;
- profuse skin rashes and itching (predominantly on the flexor surfaces of the upper and lower extremities, abdomen and chest);
- increased excitability of the nervous system;
- thrombus formation;
- increased blood pressure and the development of symptomatic hypertension;
- headache.
As therapeutic measures in case of overdose, symptomatic treatment of individual manifestations, gastric lavage, and sorbents are used, since there is no specific antidote for a vitamin drug on the pharmaceutical market.
Symptoms of ARVI in children
All acute respiratory viral infections are characterized by the predominant presence of two syndromes: intoxication and catarrhal.
Intoxication syndrome by the presence of the following symptoms:
- Chills.
- Increased body temperature.
- Weakness.
- Brokenness.
- Headache.
- Photophobia.
- Pain in muscles, joints, bones.
Catarrhal syndrome is characterized by a more varied presence of symptoms; it is worth highlighting the most common of them:
- Sore throat. Children often describe this symptom as dryness and discomfort in the throat.
- Nasal congestion, nasal discharge.
- Hyperemia of the posterior wall of the pharynx, arches, and soft palate. In other words, it is called “red throat”.
- Redness of the eyes.
- Cough.
In addition to the symptoms described above, each of the viruses listed above has its own characteristics:
- Thus, adenoviral infection is characterized by an acute increase in body temperature to 38-39 degrees, sore throat and pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx). Quite characteristic is the presence of multiple enlarged follicles on the back wall of the pharynx. The follicles look like small tubercles. Lymph nodes often become enlarged. The liver and spleen are often enlarged. Such children have a typical appearance: a “puffy” face, difficulty breathing through the nose, bright red, congested mucous membranes.
- Rhinovirus infection differs from others in that the baby develops pronounced nasal discharge. In this case, general health may be little changed.
- Respiratory syncytial infection is characterized by damage predominantly to the lower parts of the respiratory tract in the form of bronchitis or bronchiolitis in children. From the first days of illness, a dry cough appears, which increases. Often the cough is paroxysmal in nature with sputum difficult to separate.
- Parainfluenza most often leads to the development of laryngitis. Laryngitis is characterized by a rough, barking cough with hoarseness of the voice.
Interaction
The use of acetylsalicylic acid , alkaline drinking or oral contraceptives inhibits the active processes of absorption of the biological components of the drug. The absorption of a pharmaceutical drug is similarly affected by consuming fresh fruit or vegetable juices.
Penicillin increases the ability of the vitamin complex to be absorbed .
The therapeutic effectiveness of ascorbic acid as the main active ingredient of the drug is reduced by the action of Heparin , indirect anticoagulants , antibiotics from the group of aminoglycosides , and sulfonamide drugs. The simultaneous use of Ascorutin with B vitamins, on the contrary, weakens its medicinal properties.
It should also be noted that ascorbic acid increases the serum concentration of salicylates , benzylpenicillin , ethinyl estradiol and tetracycline , which manifests itself in an increased risk of developing any side effects or other unpleasant consequences of conservative sanitation.
The use of Ascorutin for more than 4 weeks (long course of drug therapy) during treatment with cardiac glycosides, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or antihypertensive drugs may enhance the effect of the latter, which requires special attention, since the adverse consequences can be very disastrous.
special instructions
Cuperosis is a disorder of the blood circulation of the skin, which is manifested by unnatural local redness (the area of the nose, cheeks and forehead is primarily affected). Also, there is an unpleasant burning sensation and increased sensitivity of the external integument to exogenous irritants. The pathogenesis of this pathological condition directly depends on the elasticity and fragility of the walls of the bloodstream, congestion, therefore, the cosmetic defect can be eliminated with the help of Ascorutin. For rosacea, tablets allow you to restore a healthy color to your face, get rid of the unaesthetic appearance of protruding capillaries and enrich the structures of the microcirculatory bed with vitamin C.
The pharmaceutical drug also performed well in clinical studies for varicose veins , a chronic lesion of the venous network.
The active components of the drug, ascorbic acid and rutin, improve trophism, normalize regional blood flow, strengthen the walls of the vascular bed, and prevent congestion in the veins of the lower extremities. Accordingly, the tablets are a pathogenetic treatment for a given nosological unit, that is, the medicine affects the mechanism of development of the disease and eliminates the corresponding stages, preventing its genesis.
Of course, the question immediately arises - how to drink Ascorutin for varicose veins ? For this pathology, you should undergo a course of treatment. The dosage used is 2-3 tablets 2 times a day. It is recommended to use the drug both during and after meals to increase the absorption capacity of the active ingredients.
There is no clinically confirmed data that the vitamins included in Ascorutin affect the speed of psychomotor reactions or concentration of attention, therefore driving a car or other complex mechanisms during conservative treatment with the drug is not prohibited.
How does Ascorutin work?
The vitamins contained in the drug quickly dissolve in the stomach and are absorbed through the mucous membrane into the blood. In the complex, ascorbic acid and rutoside complement and enhance each other’s effectiveness. Both compounds are active antioxidants. They help reduce intoxication of the body during inflammatory and infectious processes, increase resistance, regulate blood clotting and fluidity, preventing red blood cells from sticking together.
In the complex therapy of vascular diseases, Ascorutin helps restore peripheral blood supply, restore the integrity of capillaries, prevent and eliminate edema, trophic ulcers, improve the supply of nutrients to tissues and the removal of toxins.

Composition and dosage form
Ascorutin contains 2 active components:
- rutoside (rutin, vitamin P): necessary for normal microcirculation of substances in cells, fluid outflow, strengthening and maintaining the elasticity of vascular walls;
- ascorbic acid (vitamin C): important for general metabolism, absorption and conversion of nutrients into energy, tissue trophism, maintaining immunity, synthesis of collagen and muscle fibers.
Ascorutin is produced in the form of tablets containing 50 mg. ascorbic acid and rutoside of natural origin. An extract from black currant berries is often used as a starting material, so the taste of the pills is pronounced, sweet and sour. Uncoated pills have a yellowish or light green color with small inclusions. Among the formative and additional components of the drug: sugar, starch, magnesium stearate, MCC and other compounds.
The drug Ascorutin D of a similar composition and form contains sorbitol instead of sugar and is safe for patients with diabetes.
Ascorutin for children
The pharmaceutical drug is actively used in pediatric practice for children over 4 years of age, since the constituent components of the drug are part of the natural metabolism of the human body. At an early age, it is especially important to accurately regulate the number of tablets taken according to the instructions, because hypervitaminosis C for children can lead to such serious consequences as:
- hemolysis is the destruction of red blood cells (erythrocytes) in people with a deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
- deficiency of vitamin B12 , and accordingly macrocytic , megaloblastic anemia (ascorbic acid slows down the absorption of vitamin B12 in the gastrointestinal tract);
- damage to tooth enamel;
- irreversible deterioration of pancreatic function;
- peptic ulcer of the stomach (if vitamin C is taken during treatment with Aspirin ).
Main indications for taking Ascorutin
The drug is prescribed to prevent the development and treatment of pathologies accompanied by insufficient blood circulation, blood disorders or vitamin deficiency. Among them:
- tendency to increased platelet formation;
- vascular damage by salicylates;
- hemorrhagic diathesis;
- hemorrhage in the retina;
- violation of intraocular pressure;
- atherosclerotic changes;
- rheumatism;
- Iron-deficiency anemia;
- some forms of hypertension;
- venous insufficiency;
- varicose veins: lower extremities, rectum;
- trophic ulcerative lesions;
- thrombophlebitis;
- consequences of severe scarlet fever, measles;
- frequent nosebleeds;
- changes in blood composition as a result of radiation exposure.
In most cases, Ascorutin is indicated in combination with other medications or vitamin-mineral medications.
As an adjuvant, Ascorutin is used in vitamin therapy for menstrual disorders: for heavy or irregular discharge. Its regular use helps to normalize pancreatic function and the absorption of glucose by cells. This helps stabilize the condition of diabetic patients at an early stage.
For diseases of the joints and spine, the product improves metabolic processes in the tissues of cartilage and skeleton, prevents the leaching of calcium, supports the formation of intra-articular lubrication, and slows down inflammatory reactions.
Ascorutin during pregnancy and lactation
contraindications for taking a pharmaceutical drug during lactation , so you can and should safely use tablets to strengthen the general condition of the body after such a difficult ordeal in a woman’s life as childbirth. The drug has strong antioxidant properties, which will allow you to quickly return to your former athletic shape, form the much-desired waistline and feel much better.
Ascorutin is actively used during pregnancy , since this critical condition in a woman’s life is always accompanied by rapid consumption of internal reserves of useful nutrients and in particular vitamins to build a new organism. Also, the use of the drug “in position” is recommended due to the direct pharmacological effect of the tablets. It is no secret that the circulatory system of the placenta is usually weak, inelastic with a high risk of ruptures and internal hemorrhages, therefore strengthening new capillaries so that the fetus does not experience possible oxygen starvation will never be superfluous.
Ascorutin during menstruation should be taken only in cases where there is an urgent need to suppress the abundance of menstrual flow or its duration. That is, the use of a pharmaceutical drug is really justified only in serious situations (official performance, competitions, exams, and so on). From the age of 18, you can take 2-3 tablets throughout the day, and you need to swallow them immediately with a small amount of water. It is advisable to carry out the manipulation after eating, since the ability to be absorbed by the active ingredients is higher.
A conservative course for menstruation should be started 3-4 days before the expected start of menstrual flow. The duration of the entire therapy should not exceed 10 days, except in situations where a qualified attending physician has given other recommendations. It is advisable to conduct diagnostic blood tests before and after menstruation and consult with a gynecologist based on the results obtained.
Analogues and special instructions
Apart from the indicated products, there are no exact analogs in pharmacies. Rutin is present in other drugs:
Medicine | Compound | Price, rubles |
Rutin Solgar | Rutin | 650 |
Troxerutin | Troxerutin | 230 |
Troxevasin | Troxerutin | 380 |
Venoruton | Rutoside | 930 |
Doppelgerz Venotonic | Berry extracts | 380 |
The effectiveness of rutin increases when taken with ascorbic acid, therefore, when replacing the medication, it is recommended to take additional vitamin C. Simultaneous use with heparin may reduce the effectiveness of treatment. Ascorutin is able to interact with salicylates, oral contraceptives, biseptol, reducing their effect, while increasing that of nicotinic acid.
Reviews about Ascorutin
The drug is very popular in the modern pharmaceutical market. First of all, because of the cheapness of the drug, because, as a rule, crazy amounts are spent on conservative therapy, and Ascorutin is a pleasant exception. Also, the good reputation of the tablets is maintained due to the wide range of pharmacological actions and the unintended effectiveness of the biologically active components. Vitamin C in combination with rutin and other excipients have a noticeable therapeutic effect, improve well-being and significantly change the indicators of clinical tests towards internationally accepted standards.
A specialized pharmaceutical forum or any thematic Internet resource will also confirm the good reputation of the pharmaceutical drug, because Ascorutin often appears in grateful reviews. This is a medicine that does not hit the wallet hard, but brings a huge number of useful pharmacological effects that are actively used in the conservative treatment of various nosological entities.
Separately, it is worth noting the positive therapeutic effects in chronic vascular pathology . For example, in case of rosacea , after undergoing a course of conservative treatment with Ascorutin, a healthy complexion returns, an unaesthetic blush is eliminated, the problem of protruding capillaries and local hemorrhages disappears without a trace, since the pharmaceutical drug tones and strengthens the walls of the arterial and venous vascular bed, prevents the development of congestion, and improves trophic processes in the skin.
Reviews of Ascorutin for varicose veins also confirm the positive properties of the drug. The therapeutic effects of the active ingredients for this pathology are in many ways similar to the therapeutic properties for rosacea, but there are, of course, some differences. For example, the duration of a course of sanitation for varicose veins covers a slightly longer period of time, since the nosological unit is associated not only with damage to the walls of the venous bloodstream, but also with an increased tendency to form blood clots and thromboembolism .
The biologically active substances included in the Ascorutin tablets allow you to completely restore blood flow even in the most problematic areas, relieve the bloodstream of thrombotic masses, enrich the coagulation system with ascorbic acid and rutin, and reduce the risk of death.
Pigment spots are a common cosmetic problem that develops due to many reasons. The appearance of this pathological condition can be influenced by an increase in the amount of melanin , chronic stress, hormonal imbalances, age-related changes, decreased immunity, and so on. Of course, there is a specialized ointment or an expensive cream that can effectively eliminate the problem, but it is much more advisable to use Ascorutin for age spots, since this vitamin preparation restores and strengthens the functions of the skin, and therefore solves the pathological problem within just two to three weeks.
Reviews about Ascorutin during pregnancy are, as a rule, neutral in nature, since there are no effects visible to the naked eye in this critical condition for a woman. Of course, clinical tests, pathophysiological indicators and other parameters known to qualified gynecologists speak in favor of the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation, but only specialists can explain this during a personal consultation, because most women do not think about the condition of their own placenta or the presence of internal hemorrhages .
